Are these scale?
YES they are drawn to scale. They are not all the SAME scale, though. Their finished wingspans are listed with the picture on the web site, or in the catalog.
What are the sources for these drawings?
These plans are computer generated and corrected drawings, that were originally published in model and aircraft magazines from 1933 to 1939. A recently discovered stock of these magazines has provided the source. Of course, the originals were hand drawn, and contained quite a few scale and parts errors. Scanning them into the computer and converting them has allowed us to correct these errors, and check for fit before the builder finds the error.
What's included in the plan set?
The plans are scanned, redrawn and rescaled copies of
the hand drawn plans (after all, they didn't have computers then!) as
they were in the 30's. Unlike the originals, all the new drawings are
now full size in the scale as mentioned with the photos on this site.
Components (usually the fuselage and/or wing) may have been
originally printed in as many as five parts on the original
drawings. These had to be cut out and assembled. They
have now been merged into one continuous, more accurate drawing and
corrected for missing instructions, differing scales within one set
of plans, and inaccurate parts depictions and locations.
Unlike the original drawings, multiple small components (such as the
ribs and formers) are reproduced in sufficient number so that there
are enough to construct each required component. Numerous errors in
scaling and parts placement have been corrected, and additional
information and instructions are included to make it easier to
complete the model and cover details of the model that may not have
been included with the originals.
If multiple
sets are ordered, only one booklet of hints and suggestions will be
included, although each model will have it's own additional specific
instructions with it.
How do you deliver the plans copies?
The plans are printed on sheets up
to 30 inches long, and inserted in a plastic sheet protector mounted
in a clear-front report cover. This provides convenient, clean
pockets that can be used to store the prints and the templates during
construction, and after a project has been completed.
In all but the Boeing 247, a photo of the finished model, both
covered and uncovered (skeleton) is included for reference. The
Boeing 247 (as well as some of the other models) also includes many
detailed photos of the real aircraft to aid in finishing the model.
